a Word from the Sheriff of the Church

In biblical theology, the timeline of God’s relationship with humanity is explicitly divided into two major frameworks: the Old Covenant (the First Way) and the New Covenant (the Second and Only Way). The Old Covenant, established through Moses, required human adherence to a system of laws and repetitive ritual sacrifices. Because humanity could not keep it, Jesus Christ instituted the New Covenant—a perfect, final arrangement where salvation is achieved purely by grace through faith in His completed sacrifice. Scripture is uncompromising on this exclusivity: Jesus is the only path, and there is no alternative framework. [
Yet, when looking at the vast landscape of global church traditions, an unsettling paradox emerges. While nearly every denomination confesses the New Covenant in theory, virtually every church doctrine in the world implicitly introduces a “Third Way” to get to heaven. This theological detour morphs the finished work of Christ into a hybrid system of human effort, cultural conformity, or organizational loyalty.

The Anatomy of the “Third Way”
The historical “Third Way” nickname originally belonged to the early post-apostolic church, which refused to either fully merge with pagan Roman culture or completely isolate from it. They were a unique, heavenly commonwealth operating subversively within the physical world.
However, in modern doctrinal practice, the “Third Way” has evolved into an accidental gospel. It manifests when churches layer human prerequisites on top of the New Covenant. These manifestations typically fall into three dangerous categories:
1. Neo-Legalism (The Hybrid Covenant)
The most common “Third Way” is a subtle slide back into the Old Covenant under the guise of Christian maturity. While the New Covenant states that salvation is a gift, many church doctrines teach that a believer enters by grace but stays by meticulous performance. This includes:
- Strict adherence to denomination-specific dress codes or dietary laws.
- The mandatory observance of specific calendar days as a metric for salvation.
- Treating active church service, tithing, or ministry benchmarks as the invisible “fine print” of eternal life.
2. Institutional Exclusivity (The Denominational Gate)
Many corporate church doctrines create a “Third Way” by shifting the focus from an individual’s position in Christ to their standing within a specific church organization. In these environments, the implicit message is clear: Christ saves you, but only if you are a card-carrying member of our specific institution, baptized exclusively by our leadership, and aligned perfectly with our localized traditions.
3. Cultural Realignment (The Political Gospel)
Conversely, some progressive or mainstream doctrines construct a “Third Way” by wedding the church to the shifting morals of secular culture. Instead of relying on spiritual regeneration, salvation is subtly redefined as social engineering, political activism, or intellectual enlightenment.
Why the “Third Way” Fails
When church doctrines construct an alternative path, they inadvertently revive the fatal flaw of the Old Covenant: relying on human flesh to accomplish what only the Holy Spirit can do.
| Covenant Framework | Source of Power | Ultimate Outcome |
| The Old Covenant (1st Way) | External human adherence to physical laws. | Condemnation and spiritual bankruptcy. |
| The New Covenant (2nd Way) | Internal power of the Holy Spirit via faith. | Guaranteed eternal life and true righteousness. |
| The Doctrinal “Third Way” | A mixture of Christ’s grace and human performance. | Exhaustion, spiritual pride, or deep insecurity. |
By trying to build a modern “Third Way,” doctrines take the focus off the empty tomb and put it back onto human resumes. It implies that Jesus’s final words on the cross—“It is finished”—were actually conditional.
Returning to the Only Way
The true church is not meant to invent a new theological road to eternity. The New Covenant does not require a supplement. It demands a total surrender to the reality that salvation cannot be manufactured by church policy, earned by human sweat, or guaranteed by a denominational label.
To dismantle the deceptive “Third Way,” believers and ministries must strip away the secondary traditions accumulated over centuries. The message must return to its purest, most scandalous form: there is a First Way that proved we couldn’t save ourselves, and a Second Way where God did it all. Any third path is a mirage

Here are the specific New Testament scriptures that directly contrast the Old Covenant, establish the New Covenant as the only way, and explicitly warn against creating a “Third Way” through human doctrine or legalism.
1. Stripping Away the Old Covenant (The First Way)
These passages explain that the Old Covenant was a temporary tutor designed to show humanity its weakness, and it has been completely fulfilled and set aside.
- Hebrews 8:13 — “By calling this covenant ‘new,’ he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.”
- Galatians 3:24–25 — “So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.”
- Colossians 2:14 — “…having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.”
2. Establishing the New Covenant (The Second & Only Way)
These scriptures emphasize that Christ’s sacrifice is completely sufficient, requiring no human supplements, corporate organizations, or performance metrics to guarantee heaven.
- John 14:6 — Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
- Ephesians 2:8–9 — “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
- Hebrews 10:14 — “For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”
- Romans 11:6 — “And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.”
3. Warnings against the Doctrinal “Third Way” (Human Traditions)
These passages directly confront the church’s tendency to invent extra-biblical requirements, rules, and institutional gates that distort the simple gospel.
- Galatians 1:6–7 — “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.”
- Galatians 3:3 — “Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?”
- Colossians 2:8 — “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.”
- Matthew 15:9 — “They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.”
THE 3RD WAY CHURCH – 1ST WAY = OLD COVENANT. 2ND AND ONLY WAY = NEW COVENANT, BUT EVERY CHURCH DOCTRINE IN THE WORLD HAS A 3RD WAY TO GET TO HEAVEN
Exposing the Denominational “Third Ways”
While the New Testament presents a flawless binary—the Old Covenant of law (the First Way) and the New Covenant of Christ’s blood (the Second and Only Way)—the major branches of Christendom have spent centuries engineering their own theological detours.
By adding institutional gates, sacrament systems, and behavioral checklists, global church doctrines routinely craft a conditional “Third Way” to heaven.

1. The Roman Catholic “Third Way”: The Sacramental & Purgatorial Maze
The official doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church merges the grace of the New Covenant with a system of ongoing human cooperation and ritual maintenance. Rather than treating salvation as a finished, legally binding transaction completed at the cross, Catholic dogma treats justification as a lifelong process that can be lost and must be constantly restored.
- The Doctrinal Prerequisite: Salvation requires physical participation in the Seven Sacraments (beginning with water baptism for regeneration), remaining in a state of grace by avoiding mortal sin, and undergoing post-mortem purification in Purgatory for temporal punishments.
- The Scriptural Conflict: This framework mimics the repetitive, cyclical nature of the Old Covenant priesthood. It directly violates Hebrews 10:14: “For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.” If Purgatory or penance is required to pay for sins, then Christ’s declaration of “It is finished” (John 19:30) is rendered incomplete.
2. The Eastern Orthodox “Third Way”: Salvation by Mystical Attainment (Theosis)
Eastern Orthodoxy largely rejects Western concepts of legal justification. Instead, its doctrine centers on Theosis—the lifelong, mystical process of becoming unified with God and partaking in the divine nature.
- The Doctrinal Prerequisite: Heaven is not simply inherited by a declaration of faith; it is a summit reached through intense human synergy with God, achieved via monastic discipline, asceticism, liturgical participation, and fasting.
- The Scriptural Conflict: While seeking holiness is biblical, making eternal life contingent upon spiritual attainment turns salvation into a merit-based pursuit. It runs headfirst into Romans 11:6: “And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.”
3. The Protestant & Evangelical “Third Way”: The Performance Trap
Protestantism historically broke away from Rome by shouting Sola Fide (Faith Alone). However, modern Evangelicalism, Pentecostalism, and Reformed traditions frequently smuggle a “Third Way” through the back door under the banners of “Lordship Salvation,” holiness, or covenant compliance.
- The Doctrinal Prerequisite: While teaching that we enter the Christian life by grace, these doctrines imply that we maintain our salvation through performance. Believers are told they must maintain a certain standard of behavior, dress codes, tithing benchmarks, or cultural separation. In some charismatic circles, salvation is tied directly to secondary spiritual manifestations, such as speaking in tongues.
- The Scriptural Conflict: This is the exact “different gospel” that infuriated the Apostle Paul in the early church. He dismantled this hybrid system in Galatians 3:3: “Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?”
The Exclusivity of the Second Way
Every denominational “Third Way” shares a common symptom: it shifts the focus off the Savior and onto the Church organization or the individual’s spiritual resume. They take the yoke of Christ—which is easy and light—and replace it with the heavy, un-keepable burdens of human tradition (Matthew 15:9).
The New Testament leaves no room for denominational conditions. The Second Way is an absolute monopoly held exclusively by Jesus Christ.
Calvinism is a 3rd Way Church, Christian Zionism is a 3rd Way Church, Hyper Grace is a 3rd Way Church, The Apostolic Reformation is a 3rd Way Church, The Kingdom Now is a 3rd Way Church, Prosperity is a 3rd Way Church, The Pre and Mid Tribulation Rapture is a is a 3rd Way Church and Many more listed as Doctrines of demons, for demons brought the 3rd way to the Church.
